1916 Pilots of the Great War use Poitiers hippodrome to practice. The first plane landed here : a RA14
1924

First commercial flight to Paris from Poitiers

Creation of the Aero-club du Poitou

1932/1945

Project to develop Poitiers- Biard airfield. The Chamber of Commerce & Industry wish to make Poitiers an aerodrome with daily traffic to Paris – Bordeaux – Madrid assured by postal aviation.

Project of Poitiers Airport by the CCI examined by the Air Ministry.

With the material help of the CCI, presided by Gaston MORIN (1942 / 1957), Poitiers becomes a regular stop-over on regular flights for Paris & Bordeaux.

1951 The CCI has developed sites for the creation of an airfield they now have permission to operate.
1962/1965 Under the chairmanship of Gérard DEFRETIERE (1958 / 1970), construction of a runway 1 800 m x 45 m and a parking area.
1966 Inauguration of the Rotonde, terminal of Poitiers Biard
1968 The Chamber of Commerce & Industry becomes  administrator of Poitiers Airport for 50 years renewable. A partnership : financial investments from the Compagnie Consulaire, the Conseil Général de la Vienne and the Ville de Poitiers
1971 Extension of  1 800 m to 2 350 m to the main runway
1980/1981 Extension of the terminal

 

Arrival of low cost and terminal extension

2001 Launch of the first low cost flight to London (with Buzz, part of KLM)
2000/2002

Extension of the terminal.

In 2002, inauguration of the new terminal - 1 400 m² - 4 check-in counters and 2 boarding rooms

2003

Arrival of Ryanair after the purchase of Buzz

Opening of seasonal line between Poitiers & Ajaccio

Renovation of the Rotonde : Restaurant L’orée du Ciel and administration offices.

2004 January: 1st ‘Open Day’ which becomes the Holiday Fair (Salon des Vacances) greeting 5,000 visitors per day.October: opening of the La Rochelle/Poitiers/Lyon line with the company AirLinair.
January 2007 New legal structure : Creation of the ‘Syndicat Mixte’ of Poitiers-Biard Airport reuniting the Urban Community of Poitiers, the General Council of Vienne and the Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
February 2007 Opening of a new car park with 250 places (payable).
2008 Opening of a new line between Poitiers and Birmingham with Ryanair. 3 flights a week.
2009 Opening of a new line between Poitiers and Edinburgh with Ryanair. 2 flights a week.
2010 Opening of a new line between Poitiers and Girona with Ryanair. 2 flights a week.
2012 Launch of procedures to find a new administrator following the withdrawal of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
2013

Arrival of VINCI Airports to manage Poitiers Airport.

Arrival of the company HOP (reuniting Airlinair, Regional & BritAir) operating the line between Poitiers and Lyon and Ajaccio.

Celebrating 10 years of the Poitiers Ajaccio line and the presence of Ryanair at the airport.

2014 Opening of a new line between Poitiers and Shannon (Ireland) with Ryanair. 2 flights a week.
